Heron Pot, Kingsdale (East)

There is an in situ rope leading up to the high-level traverse. It appeared to be in good condition as recently as July 2022. The climb up to its beginning is free-climbable but exposed (and more difficult on the way down, with the bolts not supporting a pull-through), so the in situ rope makes very welcome aid. The 50m rigging requirement allows for rigging one’s own rope back down this drop and rigging the rest of the traverse fairly liberally.

Even in dry conditions, the bottom exit has some pools and will carry some flow. The exit should be checked beforehand though if in doubt and it isn’t sensible to exit this way in unsettled weather since the final crawl is long and flood-prone.
